Just noticed that Fitocracy is not sharing my posts. Boooo!
Anyway, here is my big news: I SNATCHED THE 53 LB KETTLEBELL! I was so excited and thrilled!
And then I got to enjoy 2 straight days of epic DOMS. I’m off to blow that out with more snatching. See ya later.
Got on my mat this morning and HELLO NURSE there was a lot of ab DOMS to get thru. Killfatme wins the prize for suggesting those extremely effective sit-up thingies. Wooofffff I was feeling it. Also, please would you calm down, left shoulder?
so.. you’re making a rocking butt.. and you don’t like the sore part? repeat the same routine for 10 days and it will not be sore anymore :)
Oh, no, I love the soreness, actually. Me and my DOMS are old buddies by now. It’s just really sore. If I bend or move the wrong way, it’s pretty intense. However… I will not repeat the same routine for 10 days, because that’s not how we roll in yoga typically. It’ll be something different every time. I’ll probably have major boob DOMS next week from doing crazy P90X stuff and then no doubt my yoga teachers will want to do, like, pec openers and side-body extension stuff. They usually know psychically exactly what to work on to make me come close to weeping on my mat. Too fun.
Remember how yesterday my yoga teacher tortured me for 75 minutes straight and made my legs weep with agony? Well, my other yoga teacher took that baton today and ran with it. Oh my GOD. She made us do all these bizarre poses that nobody has ever seen or heard of. It was totally wack. And then I had clients this evening, so that was 3 straight hours of standing and working. And now my ass is just beat down. I’m just chowing down a few stray calories from MFP — Go Raw Lemon Super Cookies are crack-tastically good, y’all — and then I reckon I’ll fall face-first into my cozy bed.
And my yoga tomorrow morning on my own mat? Will be the kind of yoga where I lie on my back a whole lot, doing twists and Happy Baby and Legs-up-the-wall and other very-low-impact type stuff of that nature. My whole body just needs a little break. Until, you know, tomorrow afternoon, ‘cause of course that is when I am hitting the gym again! When did I turn into such a glutton for punishment?
And in other news, I have a huge pot roast relaxing in my oven right now. What is best to serve with post roast: delicata squash or sweet potato fries?
So I went to take some Kundalini-style yoga at my teacher’s new, fabulous, hippy-dippy yoga studio in downtown Silver Spring. It was a gorgeous space. But she did that thing! That thing that all good yoga teachers do! She psychically divined the fact that my quads were already a bit sore from yesterday and she made us do these long-holding lunges and all sorts of painful leg things and OH MY GOD. So now every time I have to go up or down stairs… I have to breathe deeply through it. But on the plus side, Agni Sara and Breath of Fire, welcome back into my life; I’ve missed your loony charms. Also on the yoga front: When I do Janu Sirsasana, I can actually put my head to my shin now, and I freely admit that I am bragging about this all over the IntarWebs. Because I can.
And then I went and ate some yummy food from the Hot Bar at Whole Foods and also spent ALL THE MONEY on various foodstuffs. Damn that place and its seductive displays!
Managed to get my ass to the gym this afternoon. After a little rowing warm-up, my goal was to go as far as I could on the leg press machine. (I know, I know. I will make a date with the gym staff and learn to do real barbell squats sometime in the very near future. I promise.) Anyway, I finally failed out completely at 270 lbs. It was so fun! And I felt all woozy when I stood up, too. And of course now going down stairs is a little adventure, too. I expect a healthy serving of DOMS tomorrow… just in time for my running days!
Parenthood brings you some odd opportunities. So, my son had to see the gastroenterologist, and without going into too much gnarly detail, today he has to do a cleanse/liquid fast. So I guess I will fast with him in solidarity.
But I’m not down for fasting the whole darn day, so I got up nice and early and had a good breakfast: the last of the pot roast and of course some squash. I know I said no squash for breakfast this week, but I figure it’s okay because instead, today I shall have no squash for lunch. Or probably dinner either. Ugh. I’m not psychologically ready for this IF experiment. But I figure if my son’s got no real choice about it, the least I can do is try to be there for him.
Today is my resting/walking day, but it’s frickin’ pouring out. I will just hope that it clears up later. I guess I could take off these jeans and do some yoga, couldn’t I?
Oh, also, wow, DOMS from doing Thai massage yesterday! We did a lot of advanced-level poses and the client was quite full-bodied and it was work getting her into the poses, boy. And today my biceps are sore. Apparently I need to do some curls, along with the squats I already need to do. SIGH. Shit is piling up on my to-do list.
DOMS is alive and well in my back! That was a fuckton of Chaturangas and Planks in yoga class yesterday and now it’s like I can remember them all a bit too clearly when I move around. Whew! Boy, you take a couple weeks off because of life obligations… you will have to pay the piper on your return.
Nothing much to do today except my usual routine of grocery shopping and taking a nice long walk. Maybe try to clear some old leftovers out of my fridge before it gets the stank. Today my alarm went off at 6:30 and I just laid in bed for another whole hour, enjoying the feeling of being warm and cozy, just because I could. I was like a happy cat on a sunny windowsill. It was excellent.
It’s mystery DOMS! My left quads are killing me. I think it must be from yoga class yesterday. Those long holds in a lunge position will really do it to you. Today in yoga class: handstands. My ability to kick up is getting better every time. It’s still super-scary but I’m getting better at just accepting and moving past the fear. I just focus on the details of alignment and keep breathing into it. So fun!
In food today: fried up slices of kabocha in bacon grease. Oh MY GOD it was good and I wanted to eat it all day. Ate more of it for dinner. Also, 85% dark chocolate from Trader Joe’s; very tasty. Turkey and gravy from Thanksgiving are almost all gone.
