I'm trying to create a better life for myself any way I can. Life is supposed to be fun, and I plan to be having more of that!

Ask Me Stuff!

Book Review: Finding Ultra by Rich Roll

I hear it is Smile Friday. So there you are. I must be on the right track with my hair because for the first time in my life, I really feel it looks better with the salon blow-out gone.

But anyway, the book. This one is for you, BigFatShoe. It’s the story of how Rich Roll overcame addiction and then the sucking dangers of middle age to astound the entire endurance sports community by becoming an Ultraman. He even goes on to complete the EPIC5: five Iron-distance triathlons back to back in one week. Plus he did all that on a vegan diet, besides. Although I myself have no intention of ever abandoning meat, this book provides an immense amount of inspiration for anyone who is on that path, and it also bolsters all our resolve in eating a lot more plants and fruits in either case. (And really, I do think that’s one thing we can all agree on, huh? Eat more plants and fruits. Not rocket science.)

Roll goes deeply into the nuts and bolts of his diet. He also shares a lot about the experience of going way beyond exhaustion on the trail of amazing achievement. It’s really inspirational, although honesty compels me to admit that he’s not the most insanely great writer. Also, from my point of view as a wife, the real subtext of this book is that Roll’s wife, Julie, is the most wonderful, loving, supportive spouse who ever lived. If I ever get a chance to meet her I will shake her hand for sure.

So get out your Kindle and download this book. Especially you, Derek. I was thinking of you the whole time I was reading it.
